Congratulations! You have been hired by the Smithsonian Institute to create biographical summaries of six of the most important Americans from the Progressive Era. Each biography will examine the role he/she had during the Progressive Era. You will study and summarize the problem(s) each assigned person took on and the effect their actions had. Your subjects include Presidents, muckrakers, suffragists, and African-American leaders. All of these people worked hard to bring about reform and are true Progressives!

All good historians use specific methods for gathering and evaluating information. You will be using the American History Public Policy Analyst (AHPPA). By using the AHPPA, you will:

1) Identify specific problems from the Progressive Era.

2) Gather evidence of these problems

3) Determine the causes of the problems.

4) Identify steps taken (policies) that dealt with the problems.

In order to make the introduction to your new job a little easier, we have set aside all of the resources and guidelines you will need to successfully complete your tasks. This website will be your guide along the task. As long as you follow the directions on the web pages listed above and put forth the effort, you will create excellent biographies of American Progressives!
