Assessing the Impact of the Proposed Strategy

Once you have described your strategy, discuss its impact. Forecast how each of the players on the Prince Political Map will be affected by the strategies. Examine the effects of your strategy on each player even if the strategy is designed to work primarily on only one. Remember that the players are constantly keeping track of one another; there will be some indirect effects of any strategy you pursue.

To assess the impact of your strategy:

  1. Provide a brief comment on what changes you expect with respect to issue position, power, and priority as a result of your strategy
  2. Draw arrows on the Prince Political map prepared in your original analysis showing how players will move as a result of your strategy
  3. Recalculate a new Prince Chart with the changed issue position, power, and priority scores

Remember also that different strategies have different effects on different players. Promises, compromises, threats, and arguments will change only the issue position of players. Increasing publicity through such actions as petitions, pickets, and demonstrations will raise priority, but may not change either issue position or power. Most power strategies take a long time to be effective and may affect several players. For each player, whether a direct target or not, consider what the impact of the strategy will be.
