Introduction:

In today’s society, men seem to be dominating the field of Mathematics and Science. At the undergraduate and post graduate level there is a distinct disparity among the genders with regards to the choice of mathematics as a field of study. Even though some growth has been achieved in attaining gender equality in this area, much more work needs to be done.

Overview PowerPoint Presentation

Task:

Students will be divided into groups by the teacher.

Each group will use the steps of the Public Policy analyst to analyze the issue of the underrepresentation of women in mathematics in today’s society.

This research will culminate in a presentation of the findings, along with public policy recommendations to improve the representation of women in mathematics.

The presentation will include a written report that cites references and analyzes the data through the use of charts, graphs, tables, and written explanations.

Process/Resources:

Step1: The class will be divided up into groups of 4 or 5. The groups will be determined by Mr. Khan. Each member of the group will be assigned specific responsibilities. They are:

Project Manager(PM): This person is responsible for the overall presentation. He or she will be responsible for the editing of anything written and the presentation itself. The PM is responsible for the group meeting all deadlines.

Research Coordinator(RC): This person is responsible for collecting the information from each group member and keeping it organized.

Technology Coordinator(TC): This person takes the lead role in creating the presentation with input from team members.

Presenters(P): This person or persons will give the presentation.
