Piscataway v. Taxman:  Decision

The Bush Administration backed Taxman when this case was first filed.  Since President Clinton came to office, his administration at first supported the school board, but then in the Summer of 1997 reversed itself and backed Taxman.  The Clinton administration does not believe that this is a typical case which should be used as a precedent for other affirmative action cases.
This case was due to be heard at the U.S. Supreme Court in January of 1998, but in November of 1997, the school board (with the financial backing of civil rights groups) settled out of court and paid Taxman, thus preventing the case from being decided by the U.S. Supreme Court.
