Three Day Historic Boston Tour

May 4-6, 2012

 

DAY 1 – FRIDAY, MAY 4th 2012

 

7:30am            Meet your 55-passenger motor coach (Brown Coach – Charter#40240 ~ Phone: (800) 424-4700 – Bus driver: Jim Hotaling, 518-281-8623)) and depart Proctor High School (1203 Hilton Avenue, Utica NY) to Boston, MA. (265 miles ~ 5 hours drive + plus stops)

 

1:30pm            Arrive in Boston and proceed to Harvard Square to meet your tour guide for the campus tour. (1400 Massachusetts Ave, Mid-Cambridge, MA 02138, USA – TrademarkTours – Phone: (855) 455-8747)

Lunch is included for your group in Harvard Yard.

                        Your guide will meet you here.

 

2:30pm            Continue your tour of Harvard. The tour is student-led and is comprised of an outdoor walk (please dress appropriately) through of the Harvard Yard, providing a history of the university, general information, and a unique view on the student’s individual experience! The tour is around one hour long.

 

3:45pm            Depart for MIT Institute. (3 Cambridge Center, Cambridge, MA 02138)

 

4:30pm            The campus tours will be given by your guide, and generally last 60 minutes. All tours are conducted in English. The tours cover some of the most popular areas of the campus including the Student Center, the Zesiger Athletic Center, Kresge Auditorium, the MIT Chapel, the Infinite Corridor, and the Stata Center.

 

5:30pm            Board your motor coach and depart for your hotel.

 

6:30pm            Proceed to check in to the 3-star Boston hotel. (Embassy Suites) Luggage service will be included at your hotel upon arrival and departure.

8:30pm            Dinner is included for your group tonight at the Union Oyster House Restaurant. (41 Union Street, Boston, MA – Phone: (817) 227-2750).

                        Menu: Cup of Clam Chowder or Salad; Broiled Scrod or Broiled Salmon; Vegetables du Jour; Coffee, Tea or Soda and Dessert – Apple Cobbler

                        Restaurant has been notified of 2 gluten free guests.

 

9:30pm            After dinner depart for your hotel for the rest of the evening.

                        Your tour guide will be staying with the group for the night.

DAY 2 – SATURDAY, MAY 5th 2012

 

7:00am            Full American “Cooked to Order” Breakfast is included for your group at the hotel.

 

8:00am            Meet your guide in the hotel lobby this morning, board your motor coach this morning and depart for Plymouth, MA. (53 miles ~ 50 minutes drive)

                       

9:00am            This morning start with a visit role-playing interpreters on Mayflower II (Plimoth Plantation’s Mayflower II - State Pier (across from 74 Water Street) Plymouth, MA 02360) and in the English Village or meet contemporary Native people in the Wampanoag Homesite. See the rare breed animals, and in the Craft Center watch as skilled artisans re-create 17th century Native and Colonial items used in our exhibits and sold in our Museum Shops. At the Patuxet Cafe sample the menu inspired by Native and Colonial recipes. (Reservation#44537)

 

Notes:             The drop-off/pick-up area is the designated crescent on Water Street in front of the Plimoth Plantation Waterfront Shops, just north of Plymouth Rock. It is about a 1 minute walk to Mayflower II from this area.

Parking for motorcoaches is in the East Bay Grill Restaurant "Bus Parking" lot, located 200 yards north of the Route 44/Town Wharf rotary.

 

10:00am          Continue to Plimoth Plantation. (137 Warren Avenue, Plymouth, MA 02360, United States – Phone: (508) 746-1622). It is the world-renowned living history museum of 17th century -- a place you can't miss for its hands on environment, authenticity, and engaging and powerful personal encounters. (Reservation#44537)

 

12:30pm          Lunch is included for your group here. Sandwich Boxed includes: Choice of Turkey, Ham & Cheese, or Tuna Sandwich with Lettuce, or Veggie stroller, Potato Chips, Home Baked Cookie, and Bottled water. It includes a Plimoth Plantation memento.

                        The site has been notified of 2 gluten free guests.

 

1:30pm            After lunch, group to board motor coach and depart for a Boston.

 

3:00pm            Upon arrival into Boston, enjoy a guided tour of Paul Revere House – (19 North Square, Boston MA 02113, Phone: (617) 523-2338). A national historic landmark, it is downtown Boston's oldest building and one of the few remaining from an early era in the history of colonial America.

 

4:00pm            USS Constitution Museum (Charlestown Navy Yard, Building 22, Charlestown, MA 02129), bringing to life the stories of the individuals, who authorized, built, served on and preserved USS Constitution. The museum is not associated with the vessel itself. View Old Ironsides, the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world. Her history is rich and colorful and 200 years strong. View Bunker Hill Memorial.

 

4:30pm            Continue on your walking tour of the Freedom Trail. Visitors to Boston, school children, teachers, historians, history buffs, citizens, and friends, welcome to the Freedom Trail. There is no other place in the United States where you can take in the rich history of America’s Revolution — the events that led up to the historic break from Britain and the brave people who shaped our national government.

 

The Freedom Trail is a 2.5 mile red-brick walking trail that leads you to 16 nationally significant historic sites, everyone an authentic American treasure. Preserved and dedicated by the citizens of Boston in 1958, when the wrecking ball threatened, the Freedom Trail today is a unique collection of museums, churches, meeting houses, burying grounds, parks, a ship, and historic markers that tell the story of the American Revolution and beyond.

 

5:30pm            Board your coach and return to your hotel and freshen up before dinner.

 

7:30pm            Head back into Boston and enjoy a dinner at a favorite local restaurant.

DAY 3 – SUNDAY, MAY 6th 2012

Gluten-free items at breakfast include fruits, eggs and meats.  Types of meats and eggs change daily.

 

8:30am            Check-out, board your motor coach and depart Lexington MA. Renowned as the site of the battle that began the American Revolution and as the home of the most original thinkers and writers of the American literary renaissance, the town of Concord has played a remarkable part in the history of New England and the nation.

 

9:00am            Stop at Minute Man National Historic Park. (Minute Man Visitor Center -250 North Great Road, Lincoln MA) Here, the opening battle of the Revolution is brought to life as visitors explore the battlefields and structures associated with April 19, 1775, and witness the American revolutionary spirit through the writings of the Concord authors.

 

11:30am          Box Lunch is included at the Main Streets Market&Café Restaurant. (42 Main Street, Concord, MA 01742, United States ~ Phone: (978) 369-9948) A choice of chicken salad wrap or tuna salad wrap or ham & cheese wrap, turkey cranberry wrap or veggie wrap (regular or gluten free), potato chips, bottled water or soda (coke, diet coke, sprite or root beer) and a baked cookie.  

 

12:00pm          The Concord Museum (53 Cambridge Turnpike, Concord, MA 01742 ~ Phone: 978-369-9763) is the one place where Concord's past is brought to life through a nationally-significant historical collection including the famed Revere lantern, literary treasures such as Emerson’s Study and Thoreau’s Walden desk, Concord-made clocks, silver and furniture -- all in engaging, self-touring galleries with hands-on family activities and the award-winning "Exploring Concord" film. The Concord Museum is where Concord's history begins.

 

1:30pm            Board your coach and depart for home. (5 hours drive + rest stops).
