Sexo y la sociedad

 

La casa de Bernarda Alba by Federico García Lorca, Como agua para chocolate by Laura Esquivel, “Hombre pequeñitoby Alfonsina Storni, ….are selected readings that present the role of women in Spain, the United States and Latin America.  As a journalist, it is essential for you to 1) identify the problems women confront, 2) understand and examine the causes why women have challenges and 3) present the possible solutions for women to progress in today’s society.  Woman face many social prejudices in contemporary society. This is evident in the in your selected readings. This problem has existed for centuries. It is not limited to any one civilization. It will be your task to identify the problems and find solutions. Equality has been a goal for all women. You, now have a chance to help fulfill that dream.

TASKS               

 

Each group will select a particular reading, focus and select one problem, do an oral presentation in Spanish utilizing the six step Public Policy Analyst Process (PPA process) with a visual.  For example, project display, Power Point presentation or Web Quest.  

 

 

PROCESS

 

First, select and read either Lorca’s play or Esquivel’s novel and compare it with a poem, short story or movie from the reading and movie list.  See Resources.    

 

Second, answer the questions from the PPA process.  See the following:

Thirdly:

Do the following research questions and answer in detail.  Keep in mind the author’s intentions, where and when the story took place and symbolism presented. 

       

1.      ¿Quién(es) es/son el/los personaje(s) principal(es)?

2.      ¿Cómo es/son la/las mujer(es)?

3.      ¿Hay hombres en las obras?  ¿Cómo son?

4.      ¿Cómo son las mujeres de hoy?  ¿Hay una diferencia entre las mujeres y la sociedad de ayer y hoy?  ¿Por qué?  Explique.

5.      ¿Cuáles son las fuerzas y debilidades de la(s) mujer(es)?

 

Fourthly:

Use the worksheets and our answers to the question, along with other notes and research to complete your task. Your presentation should contain all the elements found in the PPA: that is you should define the problem as expressed in the reading you chose, gather evidence fro the problem both from the reading and from your internets research, find the causes, develop solutions and choose the best solution. Your ideas will be expressed in your task product.  You will use the internet sites given in the resources section of the web quest along with the other suggested materials to complete the worksheets.

 

Finally:

Work on your visual presentation and practice your español for your oral presentation.  Make sure your presentation is in Spanish.
