I) Introduction

What would it have been like to live during the Cold War?  How would you have performed as a Soviet Spy for the KGB?  Would you want to work for the CIA?  Could you keep your cover secret as a double agent?   Would the Cold War have gone differently if you were the President of Soviet Union or the United States?  Now you can find out by taking part in our Cold War simulation!  We will recreate the conditions of the time period and see what happens with students in key Cold War roles.

The leaders of your nation will select 3 of the 10 documents to classify as top secret.  These documents must be printed and put in an envelope and given to the teacher.  These are your top- secret documents and it will be the objective of your opponent to find out which documents you classified as secret.

Working together you will classify one of the three documents as top secret.  You will have to print that document and then place it in an envelope and give it to the teacher. In order for one of the Cold War powers to dominate a satellite nation; they will have to identify your top- secret document.  Other ways the super powers can dominate is if they offer financial assistance or they assassinate the opposition leader.

You must select and print TWO documents from your assigned nation.  You will then incorporate those documents into a document based essay.  This essay must respond to the following questions.  Did your nation follow a wise policy during the Cold War?

How was your strategy for winning the Cold War different than the nation you were assigned?
