Drug and Alcohol Abuse Among Teenagers in the Bronx

INTRODUCTION

Drug and Alcohol abuse is becoming rampant among teens in the Bronx! The social issues that arise from drug and alcohol abuse can range from peer problems, loss of self-esteem, family issues, unsafe sex, pregnancy, homelessness, STD’s, High School Drop-Outs and Jail.

You have been hired as consultants by the Department of Education to educate teens about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. You are to create a cool, informative campaign that teens can relate to combat this serious problem!

The Task

You will work in investigative teams consisting of three or four researchers!  As part of your team, you will conduct research into the reasons teens abuse drugs and alcohol using the public library, online resources, newspapers, magazines, statistics, case studies, surveys and interviews.

You will identify current policies that address the issue of teen drug and alcohol abuse in schools, critique their effectiveness, and create your own Power-Point campaign to combat the problem and educate your peers!

You will explore the causes of drug and alcohol use, the extent of the problem, and possible solutions. You and your fellow researchers will design your Power-Point to create awareness about the problems and then you will present your findings and recommendations to the class!

The Process

You will use the PPA method to define the social problem and create a viable solution. In groups you will together to create a campaign that will really work in diminishing the amount of teen alcohol and drug abuse in the Bronx.  The group that does the best job wins the campaign!
