What
a hot summer! It seems that we are
burning on this planet! Imagine that one
day our North and South Poles ice cap become melted, the few square miles of
land is no longer livable by lands species.
The maritime population can no longer enjoy the pleasant temperature of
salt or fresh water. Our living planet
becomes a hell. The reason according to
scientist is global warming.
According to the National Academy of Sciences, the Earth’s surface has
risen by about 1 degree Fahrenheit in the past century, with a constant
accelerated warming during the past two decades. There is a strong evidence
that human activities have seriously altered the chemical composition of the
atmosphere through the constant build up of the so called “Green house gases”- primarily carbon dioxide,
methane, and nitrous oxide. As a scientist,
you have been called to work with a heterogeneous group of scientist worldwide
in order to draft a proposal that will be taken to the UN for discussion and
approval.
TASK
1- Find the books, articles or information on
the web you will use.
2- Read and make notes about the important
concepts or issues on your topic.
You have to write a proposal in which you
have to use Public Policy Analyst
and also include the following:
Introduction
a- Tell me what you know about this topic.
b- Express what you think you will learn from
this project.
c- You must make a statement about your topic
(what you are writing about).
Body
a- Minimum 5 paragraphs.
b- Remember there is only one idea in each
paragraph.
c- Describe in details what scientists or
people in the field think about this topic.
d- In order of importance, specify what you
have learned from the article, books or other sources that you have consulted
prior to your project.
e- Remember the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, HOW,
AND WHY questions will help you to complete this topic.
Conclusion
a. Tell me what you have learned
b. Express the impact or effect of this topic
on the world.
c. Express the impact or effect of this topic
on your life.
d. Vision for the future – suggestions – open
door for new research or new studies.
PROCESS: Using the following guide line for the
completion the product.
GUIDE LINES:
Ø Use the six steps public policy analysis work sheets
to gather information before writing your report. The six steps are:
After you complete your six
worksheets, begin writing a first draft.
Create a draft of five pages report that will be submitted to the UN
council.
Ø Offer a final presentation describing your findings. Your group will have 10 minutes for the oral
presentation.
Ø MODEL: This
will be graded by creativity, neatness, accuracy/ information (by the Teacher)
Ø ORAL PRESENTATION:
This will be graded on grammar, organization and information presented.(by your peers)
Ø WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT: This will be graded on grammar,
spelling and information provided.(by the Teacher)

CONCLUSION
Global warming has caused tremendous harm to
our environment. It is also a topic of grand controversy. No one knows for certain what effect green
house gases will have on Earth’s climate.
But most scientists agree that they will have some impact. One thing is sure: The potential dangers of greenhouse gas pollution
have made global warming a serious political issue. By doing more research on the resources
provided students will be able to understand better the effects of global
warming and also the use of public policy analysis to formulate and develop
public policies to reduce this condition that threatens our survival and the
survival of other species. In the
future, we plan to have a webquest that will study
the green house effect.
Science Standard 4
Students will: understand and apply
scientific concepts, principles, and theories pertaining to the physical
setting and living environment and recognize the historical development of
ideas in science.
English Standard 1
Students will read, write, listen, and
speak for information and understanding.
As listeners and readers, students will
collect data, facts, and ideas discover relationships, concepts, and
generalizations; and use knowledge generated from oral, written, and
electronically produced texts. As speakers and writers, they will use oral and
written language to acquire, interpret, apply, and transmit information.
