WEBQUESTTOPIC: Absolute Monarchs

Introduction: Absolute monarchs had dominated European nations such as Britain, France, Prussia, Austria, and Russia.  The actions of these monarchs affected the public policies of their kingdoms.   Some of the monarchs had a positive effect on the public policy of their kingdom, while others had a negative effect.  You will as work as part of team evaluating the public policy of a chosen absolute monarch.  You will decide if this monarch should be honored as a great ruler or a failure according the results of your group’s findings.

 

 

Task:  Your group will develop evidence for the monarch they are researching.   Your task is to work in a group to discover the problems that existed in your absolute monarch’s kingdom, the public policies create to deal with the problem, and conduct a comparative analysis of your group’s absolute monarch with that of another. You will then complete a 10 minute presentation. This may be accompanied by a power point presentation using the Global Public Policy Analyst.

Process: Each student will be assigned a group to join and they will decide on which absolute monarch they will research. The evidence your group will gather for their chosen monarch must be recorded on the following worksheets listed below.

·     Evaluate the Policy

·     Do a Comparative Analysis

1. Each group will conduct internet research to complete the four worksheets.

2. Gather the Evidence is the first worksheet to be completed.  Your group must first identify what problems existed during the rule of the Absolute Monarch. 

3. Using the Evaluate the Public Policy worksheet your group must evaluate the public policy of the Absolute Monarch to deal with their kingdom’s problems.

4. Then complete the Comparative Analysis worksheet using information gained during group work from other groups to compare your monarch’s public policies with that of another monarch.

5. Finally, your group will create a 10 minute presentation on the public polices of the Absolute monarch researched.  Your presentation must include the problems that existed in the absolute monarch’s kingdom, the public policies that the absolute monarch implemented, and a comparative analysis of the public policies followed by the absolute monarch with that of another absolute monarch.

6. A the conclusion of the work, you will write an individual homework assignment of a Thematic Essay based on the information gathered.  The instructions of the homework assignment are given below under the heading homework.

Directions:   Write a well-organized essay that includes an introduction, several

          paragraphs addressing the task below, and a conclusion.

 

Theme: Absolute Monarchs

 

Throughout global history, there have been major public policies that have impacted our world.  During the age of absolute monarchs in Europe, many rulers had public policies that improved or hurt their kingdoms.

 

Task:

Chose one absolute monarch that you studied in Global Studies and  write an essay in which you complete the following task:

  • Discuss the problems that faced the absolute monarch in his or her kingdom.
  • Explain the public policies created to deal with the problem.
  • Evaluate the public policies of the Absolute Monarch with that of another in a comparative analysis.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Suggestions:

You may discuss any absolute monarch studied in Global Studies.  They include, Philip II of Spain, Louis XIV of France, Frederick the Great of Prussia, Maria Theresa of Austria, and Peter the Great of Russia.

            You are not limited to these suggestions.

 

Guidelines:

 

            In your essay, be sure to:

  • Address all aspects of the Task
  • Support the theme with relevant facts, examples, and details
  • Use a logical and clear plan of organization
  • Introduce the theme by establishing a framework that is beyond a

      simple restatement of the Task and conclude with a summation of the theme
