Introduction:

In his rap song “Kill You”, Eminem sings about his mother, “Slut, you think I won’t choke no whore til the vocal cords don’t work in her throat no more?”   “Shut up slut, you’re causin too much chaos, just bend over and take it like a slut, okay Ma?”  Rap lyrics tell our youth to f*** your mother, f*** school, f*** homework, f*** teachers.   All too often, rap lyrics contain words, phrases, and ideas that promote disrespect and violence. Some rap has a tendency to especially promote or encourage negative attitudes and behaviors toward women in the United States.   Hiphop Productions has become aware of this trend.   They have selected our class to participate in a contest where each of you will write a rap song that promotes positive thinking and behaviors regarding women. The winner of the contest will have their song included on Hiphop’s new CD. Just think, you can be an agent of change. You can save many women the mental and physical pain of violence. Be a changer and a pioneer!

  Task:

This assignment will have 3 parts.

Part 1:        To write a  two-page, type-written, double spaced report using the PPA that identifies the problem of rap and the image of women, find evidence and causes for the problem and develop public policy solutions for the problem. You will use the PPA worksheets given in the process as resource material.

Part 2:        To create a rap song that promotes respect toward women.  The song should be at least 1 minute long.  It will be presented through a Power Point presentation of at least 4 or 5 slides.

Part 3:        Extra credit will be given to those students

                             who perform their rap songs!
