The life after the French revolution ended the privileges of the nobles which had lasted for centuries.  The peasants and middle class seized control of France and created a national assembly followed by a reign of terror which thousands lost their heads to guillotine. A noble living in versatile in 1788, could not be seen in a French prison, in exile or beheaded. This revolution was a turning point in world history; no monarch was safe after this reign of terror.
