An inspirational dream is something that
everyone has at one time in his/her life. Many of those dreams are achievable
and some are not. If a dream seems achievable, a goal and a plan are set. In
Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun, the Younger family is faced
with several major issues.
The setting of the story takes place in the 1950's when African American families had to deal with blatant issues of poverty, segregation and culture. Hansberry's personal experience can be seen in A Raisin in the Sun.
You are a student in Ms. Sevieux’s class, who
has been given a paper to expand one of the major themes in the play. You want
to show how one of the themes has affected the outcome of the play.
You are to select and research one of the
various themes in the play such as, racism, poverty, classism, sexism or dreams
deferred because of these social problems. You are required to use the Internet
and various outside sources in your paper. Discuss and evaluate how these themes are
evident in today’s society. Do you
believe that these problems are a major issue in today’s times?
State various solutions that you feel can
aid the theme that you have chosen.
As you conduct your research, look for
various scenarios that have been in the news that you can correlate with your
theme.
You are to formulate your research into a
3-4 page paper. Be sure to use the TIPS methods as a guideline for writing your
research paper.
In A Raisin in the Sun, the author addressed the social problems of racism, poverty, classism, sexism and affected dreams deferred. Your task is to choose one of these problems and show how it affects the outlook on life that the characters in the play held.
