Introduction:

Truancy and students skipping classes are some major problems that the Department of Education and the community is now faced with. Each school day, hundreds of thousands of students are missing from their classrooms—many without a bona fide excuse. Left unchecked, truancy is a risk factor for serious juvenile delinquency.

Truancy is one of the first indicators in negative juvenile behavior. Truancy not only adversely effects the truant youth and the school system, but also has a negative impact on the surrounding communities. Statistics show there is a direct correlation between the truancy rate and daytime crime rates[1].

Truancy’s impact also extends into the adult years where it has been linked to numerous negative outcomes[2].

You are a teen who believes that these statistics are incorrect. You feel that daytime crime rates do not necessarily have to have a direct relation to the truancy rates. You want to prove that other factors take a major role in these daytime crime rates.

Task: You are to research the topic of truancy/ skipping classes using the Internet and outside sources. Discuss and evaluate the policies that Truman has on truancy and skipping classes. Do you agree with these policies? List at least three additional solutions that you feel should be implemented about truancy and skipping classes.

As you conduct your research, look for various causes and effects of this problem. You are to formulate your research into a 3-4 page paper.

Guidelines for your 3-4 page research paper

1) A cover sheet must be included (it is not counted as a page). Your cover sheet should have the title of your report name, date, class, teacher and your name. You may have computer graphics if you want to.

2) Your research paper must be based on the information from the Internet sources and from the 6-step public policy analyst format. You are to incorporate at least four possible policies that can be implemented at Truman to effectively deal with truancy and skipping classes.

3) Your report must be typed and double-spaced, using the Times Roman Numeral font and the font size of 12.

4) Focus your report on the social problems caused by or affiliated with students skipping classes and truancy. In addition, explain how does the Board of Education and families deal with these issues? State how these problems can be dealt with or even solved?

5) Works Cited Page
