Introduction:

 

Diabetes have become a disease which is increasing in a epidemic proportions, in resent years, especially, among minorities. There are different causes, symptoms and effects among different groups and communities. You need to examine many Websites in order to shed

 light on the alarming increase of the disease among minorities. Keep in mind that the

  results of you research may influence the government PPA funding for new research

 on this matter, as well a new money for the training of minority health professionals.

You will conduct a Wed-based research to identify the minority groups in which the incidents of diabetes are increasing in resent years.  You will have to work in groups of three or four students in order to produce a paper by using the Public Policy Analyst to complete this project.

 

             Your paper should include the fallowing:

 

              1- Definition of diabetes.

              2- Causes and Effects.

              3- Define the symptoms.

              4- Explore the risk factors.

              5- Identify the different types of diabetes.

              6- Find out about hospitals, which provide testing.

7-     Identify community agencies which provide support for the

Patient and the family.

8-     Identify the group of people most commonly affected by the disease.

 

 

Process:

 

1-      You will use the previous guidelines in order to complete the research paper as well the

     Resources listed below.

2-      You will work groups of three or four students.

3-      You will use the six steps of public policy analyst. In order to complete your report.

4-      Each group will designate a group leader that will keep track of the project.

5-      Each group will be responsible for visiting a hospital, clinic or community center in order to observer or interview a person with diabetes.

6-      Every two weeks, each of the groups will be responsible to hand in one of the six steps process in relationship to the project.

7-      Once the project is complete, each of the group will make a presentation to the class. At this time, an eight to ten pages (type written) report will be due.

Evaluation:

 

      You will be graded based in tree criteria’s:

 

1-   Each group will make a ten minutes presentation which will count for 20% of the

Final grade. Your presentation should be well organized with a beginning, middle and  an end.

    2-You will also be evaluated for your typed written paper based on the New York Standard of written English. This will count for 70% of the final grade.

3-The other 10% will be given for organization and presentation of the final

Written report.

 

        The grading will be as fallow:  

 

             A= 100-85

             B= 84-75

             C= 74- 65

             F= 64 or less.

 

 

Conclusion:

 

   By the end of your project, you will be able to distinguish between the different types of

   Diabetes.   You will be able to identify the causes, symptoms as well as resources in

    The community.    You will also be able to know the high-risk population of getting

      The disease .
