Introduction: DID YOU KNOW?
The
STEPPED pyramids of Ancient Egypt are known as some of the world’s first great
architectural monuments. Built during
the reign of the pharaoh Djoser of the 3rd
dynasty in 2630BC, under the supervising eye of the great vizier Imhotep, these elegant wonders of the world still stand in
the deserts of
Question: How were the human rights of the pyramid builders violated?
Step Pyramid Bent Pyramid “True” Pyramid
· TASK- Each student must use the six (6) step process to ensure complete
success with his/her WRITTEN PAPER project.
Identify Problem – You must state what the problem is.
Gather the Evidence
– You have to show/prove that the problem you identified exists.
Determine Causes
– You will be identifying what the cause(s) of the problem is/are.
Evaluate the Policy
– What were some of the specific laws that dealt with human rights?
Do a Comparative
Analysis- What would be some specific laws and policies that you could have
recommended in order to solve or prevent the injudiciousness of the pyramid
builders? Compare the status of
menial/low class workers from ancient
versus the modern United States (choose a specific state from the U.S).
*For access to worksheets that may
help you with your research, check out the PPA website.
Your task is separated into
three (3) parts: a written paper, an oral presentation using PowerPoint,
and the construction of a 3-d pyramid model.
|
Written Paper: You must have a 3-4 page typed paper answering the question asked above.
ü Choose a specific time period, pharaoh, name & place of pyramid
ü Include at least three (3) themes from the table below, and discuss them in-depth
ü You should focus on the social class system
ü Must have a cover page (your name, class, subject, date, teacher’s name, title of paper), bibliography (which includes at least 3 books)
Power Point/Oral presentation: After you have written your paper, choose one specific theme you (as a group) wish to stress upon in at least eight (8) slides.
ü 1st slide: Group members, class, date, title of slide show
ü Last slide: Some bibliographic references, and a “Thank you” message to viewers
ü You must incorporate both pictures and words into each of your slides
ü Creativity is highly emphasized: animated words, sounds, colors, and cartoon/reality pictures
ü Every student in the group should present and explain at least two (2) slides
3-d Model Pyramid: Working as a group, construct a 3-d version of an ancient Egyptian pyramid.
ü Be creative!
PROCEDURES-
You will be working in groups of 4.
Each student in the class is responsible
for a written paper. As a group you will be working collaboratively on the Power Point/oral presentation and the 3-d model.
· While in the computer lab one day, instead of having to use the regular keyboards and mouse to view pictures of Ancient Egypt, each of you got to use a time machine headset. With this headset you were able to view the actual events of what happened during specific periods in past history. Your teacher (that’s me!) told a brief scenario, and then asked the class a question.
“You
each put on
your time machine
headset and program your
screen using the remote control
pad in your hand. You must program
your screen to read Ancient
-2560BC. You
press ENTER. You are now in ancient
of the Step pyramid. Then you traveled to the times when the Bent pyramid
and the “true” pyramids were being built. When you have finished you must come back to your computer lab class.” Using your textbooks, research books, the Internet, magazines and
a minimum of 2 visits to a museum, answer the following question. Please Enjoy and Good Luck!
Question: How were the human rights of the pyramid builders violated?
· In your assigned groups begin to work on your individual papers. Next, work as a team on your Power Point/Oral presentation and your 3-d model.

After your successful completion of this research using
computer technology, you will have learnt how inhumanely the lower classes of
the social pyramid in Ancient Egypt were treated. You should be able to appreciate and applaud
those who sacrificed their lives, and those who still make sacrifices by doing
“menial” jobs, so that we may have the opportunities to live in more luxurious
environments.
“WELL
DONE STUDENTS!”
