Ms. Maudio

10th Grade Living Environment Class

Introduction

In days gone by, only adults were affected with Type 2 diabetes disease.  Today, there is a vast increase of children of all ages being affected.  Interestingly, different segments of our lifestyle play major roles of importance.  We lead very busy lives and try to include our daily rituals however we can.

Task

Pretend you are on our NYC legislature research team and must make recommendations concerning our environment and the resident children. Your task is to prepare a research document based on your findings.  In order to complete this project efficiently you must use the following six-step Public Policy Approach (PPA).

1. Define the problem

2. Gather evidence

3. Identify causes

4. Evaluate a policy (existing)

5. Develop solutions

6. Select best solution

Process

You will use the Internet to do research.

Research the sources below in order to respond effectively (however, you are not limited to these sites only)

Use PPA work sheets before writing report.

After completion of worksheets, begin first draft.

Continue to edit report until desirable format and content is reached.

Conclusion

Your research will broaden your understanding of the impact of junk food on Type 2 diabetes disease.  Hopefully, this exercise will make you more aware of what you ingest on a daily basis. You will also make an assessment determining the effectiveness of the TIPS program after comparing with a control group.
