The Fourteenth Amendment

Introduction:
African Americans have gone
from being three-fifths of a man in the U.S. Constitution, to citizenship, to
guaranteed equality by the Fourteenth Amendment, to pigmentation prejudice
better known as Racial Profiling. Racial Profiling has affected African
Americans in every area of their lives. These areas include:
1. driving
while black (DWB), searched illegally, shot and sometimes killed.
2. being
stripped searched by
3. Bias Media portrayal of
minorities.
4. standing
while black and oftentimes being abused by the police.
Task:
You will review the U.S. Constitution
and define the rights of slaves as they evolved from three-fifths of a man to
present.
You will write reports on
Racial Profiling and present them to the class.
You will write reports on
Patrick Dorismond and Amadou
Diallo and present them to the class.
Process:
You will work in groups.
You will use the internet to
locate cases of human rights abuses.
You will use the resource
section to guide their work.
You will do a skit on racial
profiling.
You will have a debate on
Racial Profiling.

Conclusion:
The students will have a
basic understanding of the rights guaranteed to the African American in the
Constitution and how Racial Profiling is a violation of their civil rights and
their civil liberties.
