Crusades

Ms. Smith

Global History 2

“Flashback time”

It is the year 1300 A.D. and the Eastern hemisphere has just gotten out of a crisis called the Crusades.  These wars have just ended and there is no documentation about the Crusades.  As a result, the World Government Newspaper (a.k.a. Ms. Smith) has hired the BEST GLOBAL REPORTERS (YOU) to document the problems that caused the Crusades.  Your assignment is listed below.

As a global reporter, your assignment is to find out what were the political, social and religious causes of the Crusades.  You are looking for the REASONS on why the Crusades happened. You can be creative with your style of writing, such as, an interview with a Muslim, Christian or Jew who experienced the Crusades; you can write your report in a traditional third person format, or you can write a biography about a Muslim or Christian who experienced the Crusades.  To gather your information, you will be following the Public Policy Analyst format (below).

YOUR TASK:

To gather the information you will need, complete all FIVE worksheets provided.  If you lose the hard copy I distributed, you can clink on to the hyperlinks below to print another copy.

This worksheet will allow you to identify the problems (causes) that caused the Crusades. You are to list one political, one social and one religious cause.

This worksheet will allow you to gather all the evidence (references) that you will need.  The minimum is three references.

This worksheet will allow you to DISCUSS IN DETAIL the causes you listed in Worksheet one.

This worksheet will allow you to judge whether the Crusades were an effective answer to the problems you stated in Worksheet 1

This worksheet allows you to find another similar event and compare the two.

STEPS TO FOLLOW (PROCESS)

FIRST, brainstorm on how you want to deliver your report. Once you decide, follow the format for whatever one you have chosen:

INTERVIEW: You will decide if you are going to interview a Christian, Muslim or Jew who experienced the Crusades.  You as the reporter will be asking your interviewee the questions.  If you decide this option, HAVE FUN WITH IT!!

BIOGRAPHY:  You will make up the person you are writing about.  Again, creativity is a must for this option.

STANDARD FORMAT:  You will follow the standard format for newspaper articles.  It will be written in third person.

SECOND, once you have decided on your report, fill out ALL WORKSHEETS before you begin to write your report. THE WORKSHEETS WILL GIVE YOU THE INFORMATION YOU NEED TO DO YOUR REPORT.  There will be a day set aside to meet with you one-on-one and check over all your worksheets.  Your paper needs to be a minimum of 3-5 pages.

THIRD, begin writing your report…Remember, have fun with it!
