TIPS WEB QUEST

STD

DAWN SAMUELS

CIS22

Introduction:  Why does it hurt so much when I pee?  What is this unusual discharge?  What are these sore all over my private part?  These are some of the questions someone with a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) will ask.

Task:  You are a student in the eight grade; part of your requirement for health class is to produce a power point presentation. In your presentation there should be definition, symptoms, consequences, and treatments of all nine STDs. Your information should be accurate; the audience should be able to identify a STD   base on your presentation.

PROCESS:   Student will be divided into group; each group will be responsible for answering the following questions.

1.       What is a STD?

2.       What are the different types of STD?

3.       How does a person catch this disease?

4.       Is there any cure for this disease?

5.       What can we do to stop the spread of STD?

6.       What are the consequences of a STD being left untreated?

7.       In order to answer the above task questions, you must use the six TIPS PPA steps found at the TIPS web site (see link #7).

RESOURCES:

To help with the process, students will use the text book Total Awesome Health, to define and classify the different types of STD. They can also go to the library to find articles on STD. Along with the above resources students can use the following web site:

1.   www.thedailyapple.com

2.   www.hsph.harvard.edu

3.   http://go.drkoopcom/news/special-reports/std

4.   http://www.hdcm/com/infom.htm

5.   http://srd.yahoo.com/drsf/14304935

6.   http://www.vfair.com/conditions/stds.htm

Evaluation:

Student will be graded on how well they present their power point. Were they able to define, show the signs, treatments, and consequences of a STD. Grades will be given as followed:

As= students had definitions, signs, treatment, and consequences of all nine STDs. They also use all six PPA steps.

Bs= students had definitions, signs, treatment, and consequences of seven STDs. They only use four of the PPA steps.

Cs= students had definitions, signs treatment, and consequences of only four STDs. They only use three of the PPA steps.

Ds= students had definitions, signs, treatment, and consequences of less than four STDs. They use three or less PPA steps.

CONCLUSION:  Students will have learned more about SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE. They will be able to know the definition, signs, treatments and consequences of nine STDs. STDs can be serious and life threatening. For some STDs, there are no cures. Once infected with these STDs, a person will always be infected. Fortunately, STDs can be prevented. Hopefully they have learned the facts about each STDs.  They will know that they have control over their behavior and decisions. They will also have learned how to do a power point presentation using the six public policy steps. Students should not let their learning stop here, they should know that only you can decide not to be sexually active and then stick to your decision
