INTRODUCTION:
YOU HAVE JUST BEEN HIRED AS AN URBAN PLANNER FOR N.Y.C. YOUR GOAL IS TO RESEARCH AN ARCHITECTURAL
SOLUTION TO A SOCIAL PROBLEM THAT EXIST IN OUR SOCIETY TODAY. THIS PROJECT WILL BE DIVIDED INTO TWO TERMS.

THE FIRST MARKING PERIOD WILL CONSIST
OF INDEPENDENT RESEARCH OF A PARTICULAR PROBLEM YOU SELECTED.
§
FOR THE SECOND MARKING PERIOD, WE WILL
BE IN TEAMS OF TWO OR THREE WORKING ON A SIMILAR PROBLEM TO COLLABORATE AND
COALESCE YOUR GROUP RESEARCH WITH THE END GOAL OF SUBMITTING AN ARCHITECTURAL
DESIGN THAT SOLVES THE PROBLEM.

6. FROM THE POLICY CHOICES, YOU WILL THEN CHOOSE THE BEST
POLICY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM.
AN OPTION TO CONSIDER IS TO IDENTIFY A REAL WORLD PLAYER OR
ORGANIZATION AFFILIATED WITH THE PROBLEM. YOU CAN WORK WITH THAT PERSON OR
ORGANIZATION THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS AND PRESENT THE FINAL PRODUCT FOR THEIR
EVALUATION (YOU WILL STILL HAVE TO MAKE YOUR FINAL PRESENTATION TO THE CLASS IN
JUNE).
PROCEDURE:
1st
Week- Introduction to TIPS program You
are to navigate the TIPS site to explore its
relevancy to your project.
2nd Week-
Selection of project A commitment is made
to the project of interest for you and an out-line of your approach will be
submitted. Please include at least six web sites that provide information for
your project.
3rd
and 4th Week- Work sessions on the computer
5th Week-Power Point Presentation- Lesson on Microsoft Power Point with an emphasis on the use of graphics and
charts, incorporated slides, etc…
6th
Week- Presentation of
preliminary report of your findings. Put in Power Point format.

THE POWER POINT PROGRAM. A VERBAL
PRESENTATION WILL ALSO BE MADE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE ABSTRACT OF THE
RESEARCH.

Second
Marking Period: AFTER TEAMING WITH STUDENTS WORKING ON
THE SAME PROJECT, YOU WILL COMBINE YOUR RESEARCH AND SUBMIT IT AS A TEAM.
1). FINAL
RESEARCH REPORT (IN POWER POINT FORM) DUE PRIOR TO THE EASTER VACATION.
2).
ARCHITECTURAL GRAPHIC SOLUTION THAT INCLUDES FLOOR PLANS, SITE
PLANS, ELEVATIONS, CONSTRUCTION DETAILS,
ETC. THIS SOLUTION WILL
BE GIVEN AS YOUR FINAL PRESENTATION IN
THE COURSE AND WILL BE DUE ON JUNE 1ST,
2002.
CONCLUSION:
After completing this
project, students will have applied the knowledge and thinking skills of
research, science, and technology to address real-life problems and make
informed decisions. They will submit a visual and/or model of their
solution.
