Terrorism in the United States has been a problem since the early 1990’s. Its impact has affected the lives of Americans all over the country. Terrorism is an act in which at any given moment it can strike danger, terror, and fear into the hearts of many. The actions are hard to predict and hard to control. And when the acts are completed it has along term affect on all Americans.
Now that you have contacted this website you have
been selected as an operative for the United States as a Counterterrorism
specialist. You will create a Public Policy by using the TIPS model in order to
create new ideas on how to combat terrorism. As an operative for the United
States your mission is to find new ways and implement your findings to Public
Policy for the United States government.
Students will break up into a specialist team of
five or less. Each group will research different types of terrorism and acts
and explain how it relates to American values and science related issues.
Overall
Focus:
To examine the
social and political impact of global terrorism on world society and what
policies the United States needs to develop to address these problems.
Use the Web sites
provided to find specific information about specific countries and regions
impacted by terrorism.
Analyze the
security countermeasures available to aid in the cessation of terrorist
activity.

B. Students will take a stand
based upon what they have learned and write a detailed news article, using the
following question.
Global Terrorism: Where is it occurring and what's being done?
As a
counterterrorism team you will also answer the following questions as a
guideline for you assigned task.
1.
What
is the basic strategy employed by the U.S. Government to combat terrorism?
(International exchange of information and intelligence on terrorists. To make
no concessions, bring terrorists to justice, put pressure on states that
sponsor terrorism, bolster the counterterrorist capabilities of those countries
that work with the United States and require assistance)
2.
What
new offices have been established to counter and defeat terrorism in and
against the United States?
(The Office of Homeland Security and the President's Special Advisor for Cyber
security, and a National Security Advisor for Combating Terrorism)
3.
What
suggestions do the CIA and US Congress make for combating Terrorism?
(There are political and diplomatic efforts, training and other assistance to
other governments to help them combat terrorism more effectively, economic
sanctions, criminalized the making of financial contributions to foreign
terrorist organizations and freezing of such organization's assets, and the
application of the rule of law, and specifically of criminal law, to
international terrorism.)
4.
What
kinds of individuals are impressed into joining terrorist groups?

Step Two:
Each team member will try to define the problem of
terrorism and try to find a solution by using the Public Policy Steps.
Each team member will individually give themselves a
code name (ie.) ALPHA, BRAVO, CHARLIE, DELTA.
The ALPHA Team member will use the PUBLIC POLICY
STEP number one of DEFINING THE PROBLEM.
The BRAVO Team member will gather evidence.
The Charlie Team member will Identify causes.
The DELTA Team member will develop solutions.
As a team
you will exchange information based on the information you have gathered
utilizing the internet links.

policies.
Once the team gathers and exchanges the information
the team will produce a report using the Public Policy Analyst steps.
