POLICE BRUTALITY

WEBQUEST BY L. OTERO

CIS 303, BRONX

Introduction

Imagine you have the opportunity to apply for a job to work as a governor’s assistant to improve your community.  The governor is very interested in what happens in your community but he doesn’t have the time to find out information about the problems that affect it or how to solve them.  The governor is concern about the latest incidents of police brutality in New York.

Tasks

You are going to use World Wide Web sites to problem solve a social problem.  You will use the Public Policy Analysis procedure to come up with a possible solution for police brutality.  Then, you will present your findings using power point.

Process

1.      When you apply for a job you need to send your resume.  If you don’t have one already, create one.

2.      You have to write a cover letter to be sent along with your resume to the governor.  Explain why you are a good candidate for this job.

3.       Use the Internet to locate at least three different types of evidence to support the existence of police brutality. See resources.

4.      Come-up with three possible solutions to the problem based on the information you gather.

5.      Analyze your possible solutions and decide which one is the best.  (Remember, the governor doesn’t have much time, so make sure that your solution is a good one.)

6.      Now, get ready to present your findings to the governor.  Write an introduction and also a conclusion.

7.      Use power point for your presentation.  It should include 5 slides.  First slide should have your introduction.  Second slide should include the problem you address and the causes.  Third, information you gather.  Fifth, a possible solution, and the last one your conclusion.

Resources

You can use the following resources to complete your work.  I highly recommend you use other sources to gather information, such as newspapers, magazines, and even a survey to get input from the people in your community.  The following are some WWW site where you can find information about police brutality.   To make sure you don’t forget what you are searching for, you can always go back to the process section.
