Many eighth grade students
do not eat school lunch. They tend to
stand on line to grab the dessert or fruit provided and the milk, but throw the
meal in the garbage without hesitation. These students often do not eat
breakfast before they come to school, and opt to wait until they are dismissed
from school to purchase something to eat.
Meanwhile, on a daily basis there is an abundance of food being wasted
and the lunch staff has become frustrated.
As a team of supervisors
you will have to encourage these eighth grade students to eat their lunch, and
stop throwing it away. You will work in
groups to research nutrition, develop a survey, design a menu, and write a letter
that will encourage the eighth grade students to eat school lunch.
Each team of four
supervisors will be assigned to satisfy one of the tasks.
1. Team number one will research nutrition- the four
basic food groups.
2. Team number two will design
a survey that will a gather information about the
types
of food the students like to eat.
Students will also present information from
their
survey and present it as a chart or graph.

Students will be graded based on how well the letter is
written or typed.
Students will also be graded on how well they provided
the pros to consuming a nutritious meal.
At the end of this webquest
students should be able to understand the importance of eating a well balanced
meal. Students will have learned how to
write a survey and transfer that information into a chart or graph as a visual
aid. Students will also have learned
how to research information and use different
resources to enhance their reports.
