JANE
EYRE: A CHILD IN CRISIS
A
STUDY OF CHILD ABUSE and NEGLECT IN THE 21ST CENTURY AND IN
VICTORIAN ENGLAND
“My head
still ached and bled with the blow and fall I had received: no one had reproved
John for wantonly striking me…” from Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
You
have the privilege of using a “time machine”
and a “human teleporter.” You will be using the time machine to travel back
in time to Victorian England. Your
mission is to study the treatment of children during this period in
England. You will use the “human
teleporter” to bring back a child who has been abused. This child’s name is “Jane Eyre.” You will try to help this abused child by
introducing her to the variety of agencies that are available to children in
the 21st century in the United States. Keep in mind that this little girl is new to
our culture, our era, and our view of child abuse. Your humanitarian actions will illustrate a
rise in abuse and neglect of children of both genders in the United States.

You
will be judged on the quality of your Power Point slide show and your oral
presentation. The guidelines below have
been created to give you a clear understanding of what is expected. Your own originality and creativity counts
for a large part of your slide show.
Allow your own creativity to shine through both your slide show and your
oral presentation!
Guidelines for your Power Point Presentation
Ř All your 7 slides must
be original.
Ř Your slide show must
consist of 6 slides and 1 credits slide (no more and no less than seven slides
will be accepted).
Ř Your first six slides
must focus on the 6-step public policy approach
www.maxwell,syr.edu/plegal/tips/welcome.html
Ř Your seventh slide or
the “credits slide” must contain your name, the class, and a list of the
sources that you used in the first six slides (MLA style).
Ř You must also submit the
“slide boards.” These are the printed
copies of your seven slides.
Ř You will have to present
your slide show in front of the class on a scheduled date and time.
Ř Your oral presentation
must be a dynamic talk that enhances your slide show. Reading the slides to the class will result
in automatic failure.
Ř Your slide show must
have pictures from “Clip Art” and pictures that you downloaded from the
Internet.
Ř Each slide must use
color in the background and in the font.
Ř At least one slide must
use “Word Art.”
