INTRODUCTION
“All men are created equal” . . . is clearly stated into the declaration of the Independence. This statement has been very debatable in relation to the treatment of minorities. On March 16, 2000, Patrick Dorismond an unarmed man was shot to death by Detective Anthony Vasquez as the officer and two others attempted a “buy-and-bust” drug, operation near Penn Station and Madison Square Garden.
The Police Commissioner made an announcement soon after. One of the officers, (who are all Hispanic), approached Mr.Dorismond who was black, and another man in front of a bar. “He engaged them in a conversation relative to drugs”said the commissioner.
Patrick Dorismond 25, was hit in the chest with a bullet and died at the hospital. No drugs were found on his possession.
