The New York City Department of Health should create a more comprehensive the Asthma Education Program to advance and complement current efforts in asthma education in the Bronx. One of the components is curriculum development to educate pre-school, elementary, middle school and high school staff and families of children with asthma. Another component is curriculum development and training for public elementary, middle, and high school administrators, teachers and interdisciplinary school staff to advance school-wide asthma awareness in the Bronx public elementary, middle and high schools. This program will be will be controlled by the New York City Department of Education.

(B) Indicate the legislative requirements for the proposed policy:

New legislation is required appropriating funding from the City Council to the New York City Department of Health to administer the Asthma Education Program.

(C) Indicate the administrative and financial requirements for the proposed policy:

The Asthma Education Program will be administered by new staff whose salary, expenses, and administrative costs will total $500,000.
