Step #2:    Where Is The Evidence?

Case Studies

There are many news magazine shows on TV. Some examples are 60 Minutes, 20/20, and Dateline. These shows often use case studies. A case study describes one example of a certain social problem. Examples might include stories about:
  • A victim of a crime
  • A person with a disability
  • A person who uses illegal drugs
  • A teenager who vandalized his school
The Internet has articles that contain case studies. There are some advantages to using case studies as evidence. Case studies can sometimes be very effective. Since they focus on one individual case, case studies can often create sympathy for that person's problem.
A good case study presents a person's problem that is similar to many other people with the same problem.
