Introduction:

Prior to November of 2014, many U.S. citizens were not covered by health insurance.  When seriously injured, these individuals were forced to pay for health costs out-of-pocket.  When diagnosed with a disease, these individuals were unable to receive any health coverage.  Distressed by the fear of skyrocketing health costs, many uninsured individuals simply avoided seeking any healthcare.  This situation greatly decreased the likelihood that serious illnesses would be diagnosed and treated in their early stages.

Congress enacted Obama’s plan in November 2014, known as t the Affordable Care Act (, also known as Obamacare), but has received a great deal of scrutiny over it.  Numerous Republicans have voiced their opinions concerning the issue.  He has selected you to further investigate this problem.  Use the American History Public Policy Analyst (AHPPA) to complete your new task!

Task:

Create a PowerPoint presentation in which you follow all four steps of the AHPPA.  You will then present your findings to the class.

Process:

Your PowerPoint presentation should consist of all four steps of the American History Public Policy Analyst.  Each step of the PPA should get its own slide and be in depth.

1.       You will be put in groups of 5.  Each member will work collaboratively with the rest of the group.  This will not be done independently.

2.      Open a PowerPoint presentation.

3.      After creating an introductory slide with each of your names on it, create some slides for each of the 4 steps of the American History Public Policy Analyst.  Here are the four steps and the resources necessary to complete each step:

4.      Periodically save this file to your “Z” drive.

5.      At the end of every class, e-mail the presentation to each group member.

6.      When you are finished creating your presentation, prepare yourselves to present this information to your class using your newly created PowerPoint.  Each member will have to speak during the presentation, so decide who will discuss which topic(s).

Conclusion:

The problem of a lack of health insurance plaguing U.S. citizens has drawn a great deal of public attention.  President Obama has created the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) to solve this problem.  Some politicians have spoken out against this public policy.  In your opinion, what is the best solution to the problem of a lack of insured Americans?  Why?
