Introduction:

Technology! The thing that drives our world today from social media, banking, shopping to even medical diagnoses.  Children are exposed to this technology at a very young age. Many can be seen swiping an iPad or pressing buttons on a mobile phone. But, is this a positive image we want to see for young children or is it a sign of the times.

Task:

*You will create a chart showing how much time each day you spend on a computer, cell phone, gaming system or tablet.

* You will note what technology you are using.

*You will  create a bar graph showing the time spent on the type of technology you used.

*You will note what the most time you spent using technology.

Process:

The teacher will divide the class into groups.  Each student will be responsible for keeping track of the days and times they used technology and the amount of time spent. The students will total the hours for each day and record this.  Students will create their bar graphs using the information they gathered.

The 6 Steps of the Public Policy Analyst (PPA)

1.   Define the Problem

2.   Gather the Evidence

3.   Identify the Causes

4.   Evaluate an Existing Policy

5.   Develop Solutions

6.   Select the Best Solution  (Feasibility vs. Effectiveness)

Conclusion:

You should be able to follow the PPA and identify the ways and which technology can consume attention of young children.

Standards:

The standards are:

1.   Research and evidence based.

2.   Clear, understandable and consistent

3.   Built upon the strength and lessons of current state standards.

4.   Based on rigorous content and the application of knowledge through higher-order thinking skills
