INTRODUCTION:

Making new friends can be both exciting and scary! Your mind can be filled with thoughts that give you butterflies in your tummy. But there’s hope! Being, and having a good friend can make your world a better place, but we must remember to treat our friends how we want to be treated.

TASK:

Your task is to become a member of the Friendship Brigade. You must complete the following activities:

1.    Create a poster showing one way you can show kindness to another person.

2.    Create an invitation that you will give to another student inviting them to also become a member of the Friendship Brigade.

3.    Write at least two sentences telling why it’s good to be kind to others.

PROCESS/RESOURCES:

1. We will read Llama, Llama and the Bully Goat by Anna Dewdney, and we will discuss some of the problems the little llama faced in the story.

2. Students will work in groups of two in order to complete the first and second tasks in this quest. The third task will be completed at home with a family member.

3. Students will use the steps of the PPA to help them

1. Define the Problem: Worksheet#1: Bullying can make it hard to make and keep friends.

2. Gather the Evidence: Worksheet #2: Bullying should be addressed very early on

3. Identify the Causes: Worksheet #3: Sometimes children haven’t learned to appropriately express themselves, which can lead to aggression

4. Evaluate an Existing Policy: Worksheet #4: Kindergarten students pair up with Pre-K students to act as “Big Friends”

5. Develop Solutions: Worksheet #5: What can we do to make sure we are being good friends?

6. Select the Best Solution: Worksheet#6  (Feasibility vs. Effectiveness): Is what we are doing to make sure we are being good friends working?
