Bullying at O.L.Q.M identification and prevention

Introduction:

·         Schools are a safe, loving, warm, and educational environment were children are expected to work had, do well, and grow as an individual. Sadly the growing numbers of children and young adults that can use this description are dwelling. For many children at O.L.Q.M this has been the case. They are being bullied a process that was once considered a rite of passage is now a serious offence.  The fear of name calling, pushing, kicking, and isolation is the new definition of school and it has to change. As a sixth grade class we are going to tackle the many issues of bullying. Creating an educational pamphlet to educate those around us of what we have discovered.

 

Task

Objective1: The sixth grade has been asked to analyze existing school policy, and create a school wide policy that protects against bullying at OLQM.

Areas to focus on

·         Preventing bullying ( group one)

·         Reaction to bullying (group two)

·         Help for those who have been bullied ( group three)

·         Guidance  to those who have been bullying ( group four)

Objective 2: Create a pamphlet that educates and introduces the topic that their group had to work on.

Process/Resources

1.       Students will be broken into four groups. Each group will be given a topic that they have to focus on answering. During this time they will be Defining the problem( Identifying the cause) . Each group will create a presentation on their topics.

2.       Students in whole group will disgust the existing policies and distinguish the flaws in said policy.

to develop their group pamphlet they will have to incorporate pictures, text, and facts found through research.

Conclusion

After completing this WebQuest students will have evaluated the school’s policy towards bullying. Discuss the ways to improve the school policy by creating a new one based on research, and discussion. By students creating pamphlets they have educated and become more socially aware of the bullying situation in O.L.Q.M. Working in groups students will have focused on different areas: policy, reactions to bulling, victim, and, the bully.
