Legal Mexican immigrants are far less likely to choose naturalization than other immigrants, according to the New Pew Report, which found that two thirds of the 5.4 million Mexican immigrants eligible to become US citizens have not done so. Many immigrants who support overhaul legislation now before the Senate do not have legal immigration status, so they cannot travel easily across state lines and they think twice about turning out in public. Statistics show that 300,000 to 400,000 children are born of illegal immigrants each year.

Why do you think the Mexican community are keeping themselves from obtaining legal rights?

Students will create a PowerPoint using the PPA policy, on the issues regarding Mexican naturalization, followed by an oral presentation of the PowerPoint.

Process/Resources:

Students will be divided in 6 groups of 5 students. Each student in a group will have a specific task to complete.  Each group will complete the PPA worksheets for the policies they are given. Finally they will create a presentation with a solution to their assigned problem. Below you will find a task description for each student.
