Bullying during recess
Technology Class
Ms. Castillo
INTRODUCTION
Are you being a “Bucket Filler” and following
our R.O.A.R expectations everywhere you go? At P.s. 280Q there has been an
increase in bullying incidents during recess and students are feeling sad when
they go outside. Do you know of ways we can stop this?
TASK
You have been called out to action, as a
concerned student-citizen, to teach other students about what bullying is, why
it happens, and how to stop it. Learning
and teaching others about this topic is one way to get the bullying incidents
to decrease.
In order to teach other students about bullying, you must first learn about bullying and how to stop it in your school. Together with your group you will research the topic. Once you have researched the topic, you will need to create a presentation on the topic. Your presentation can be in the form of an informative poster, brochure, video or a PowerPoint presentation. You will be expected to present your information to other students in your class, and, if you are interested, to other students in our school.
PROCESS
Think back to our presentation on taking care
of our digital devices and how we used the PPA steps to define the problem and
create a solution. Over the next technology sessions
you will use the PPA steps to create your presentation on how to stop bullying
during our recess time.
Use the links below to remember what each step
is.
The
PPA Steps:
Days 1 & 2 - Define the Problem and Gather the Evidence
Bullying is not ok and we
must work together to stop it! Work with
your group to research and learn about bullying. Think about our Bucket Filler
and ROAR initiatives and how hard we work to be kind and care for others and
ourselves. Use the link below to learn more about bullying.

Day 3:
Identify the Cause and Evaluate Existing Policy
Recess should
be fun and exciting for all students! With your group, determine the cause of
the problem and think about the following questions.
■ Why do some students become bullies?
■ Why are some students bullied?
■ What are the signs that a student is being bullied?
■ What should be done if someone suspects bullying?

Day 4: Develop and select the best solution
There are many ways we can work together to stop bullying in our
school. Especially during recess. Use the information you have learned with
your group to develop and select the best solution to our current bullying
issue.
Day 5: Prepare your presentation
1. After familiarizing yourself with the topic, tackle these questions with your group:
■ Why do some students become bullies?
■ Why are some students bullied?
■ What are the signs that a student is being bullying?
■ What should be done if someone suspects bullying?
2.Take notes on information that you find that is important to know about bullying. Keep in mind who your audience is.
3. Make sure to cite your sources.
4. Read through your notes and decide which information is the most important and should go into your brochure.
5. Decide how you are going to present what you have learned to others. You can create a video, PowerPoint, infographic poster, or a brochure.
6. Have

Presentation time!
Share what you have created with your group!
EVALUATION
CONCLUSION
Congratulations!
Throughout this journey of gathering
information about bullying, you as a concerned student- citizen have picked up many pieces of valuable
information. One of the most effective
solutions to bullying is education and awareness. YOU are now an "expert" in one area
of bullying. YOU know how to identify
bullying. YOU know what a bully may be
thinking. YOU know what a target of
bullying may be feeling like. YOU know
the steps that need to be taken to END the bullying. YOU need to take a stand.
If you
see bullying taking place, tell someone, don't just stand there and watch or
encourage the action. Be a friend to everyone, even if it means that you might
not seem "cool" to the popular kids.
Bullying is not "cool" in anyway.
