New York City Supports New York State in Fight Against Gun Violence. January
18, 2023
“Gun violence is sadly something we’ve all seen and
felt too often in New York City, and across our state,” said Mayor Adams. “The
Concealed Carry Improvement Act and the state’s nuisance statutes are both
critical to damming the rivers feeding the sea of gun violence and keeping us
all safe. Under our administration, we have already been able to stop the sale
and delivery of illegal ghost guns to our city from five online retailers, and
the New York City Police Department continues to take illegal guns off our
streets every day. We are proud to support Attorney General James and the state
in the fight against gun violence and in ensuring our streets are not riddled
with gun violence.”
TASK
Objectives:
Using the PPA Process, you will follow the six steps
to solving the problem. The six steps of the PPA Process are: define the
problem, gather the evidence, identify the cause, evaluate the existing policy,
develop a solution, select the best solution.
With your partner, you will create a Google SlideShow informing others about the benefits of talking
about violence in our community and why YOU are important to your neighborhood.
PROCESS & RESOURCES
Day
1 and Day 2: Gather the
Evidence
There are various types of violence that we hear on
the news daily: drone bees, queen bees, worker bees. Each student has a special
job in this assignment. With your partner, discuss the PPA and each type of
situation you know and research it. After you research and discuss with your
partner, you will write four to five sentences about why violence in our
neighborhood persists and what you can do to identify and avoid possible
situations in your life. What careers and professions are put in place to protect
today's youth?
