Learning Target: I can write about the challenges facing children in
Sudan by gathering information from an image, video, and discussion. |
|
Introduction In this unit,
we will focus on some of the events that occur in our world, and how we can
learn more about them to make change.
We will read a novel called, “A Long Walk to Water” by Linda Sue Park,
which tells the true story of two children growing up in a country called
Sudan. The water crisis is a health crisis. Nearly 1 million people die each
year from water, sanitation and hygiene-related diseases which could be
reduced with access to safe water or sanitation. The two children from our
novel struggle with the repercussions of the Global Water Crisis. What
can we do to help? Before we read, we want to build some of
our background knowledge on the topics that will come up in the novel. |
