INTRODUCTION
New York City is suing several social media companies for their negative impacts on mental health. Since the rise and popularity of Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube have increased, the mental health of young students and teens have declined. These social media companies have contributed to a growing mental health crisis in preteens, teens, and young adults all over the world.
It is believed that the algorithms used to generate feeds are contributing to addictive behaviors, encouraging users to stay on longer and engage more with the apps. Use of such social media apps have been linked to depression, anxiety, and even eating disorders. These apps are exposing young minds to harmful and inappropriate content negatively affecting their body image and mental health.
