Introduction:

What are germs? Germs are tiny creatures that cannot be seen without a microscope. In a sense they are invisible! So invisible that we can’t see when they enter into our bodies and make us sick.

Where can we find germs here at Saint Francis? EVERYWHERE! They can be on everything that you touch throughout your day at school and at home. What’s tricky is that they can even be in the air too, so you can walk right into them without even knowing!

Task:

1)           Gather the students on the circle time rug.

2)           Introduce the lesson plan objective:  What are germs?

3)           Read the following book:       germs.png

4)           Follow up the reading with questions: Who can tell me what germs are? How are they spread? What are some ways we can stop spreading them? Anybody have any tips!? sink.png

5)           If further information is needed, watch some cool clips on how to stop germs in your classroom!

6)           Color in the “I’m a Germ” worksheet provided by your teacher.

7)           Complete the “Germs” writing sheet provided by your teacher.       ws.png

Process/Resources:

Step 1: Define the problem (Germs!)

Step 2: Gather the evidence (Books & Online Resources)

Step 3: Identify causes and why they invade our bodies.

Step 4: Work on ways in which we can prevent them from spreading (Wash your hands coloring sheet)

Conclusion: Wrap up the lesson with a closing song!

Twinkle, twinkle little star,
Look how clean my two hands are.
Soap and water, wash and scrub
Get those germs off
Rub-a-dub-dub.
Twinkle, twinkle little star,

Look how clean my two hands are.
