Introduction:

You are a nutrition expert in charge of reducing obesity in the United States.  You will inform others about how to eat a healthier diet and create a public policy that will reduce obesity in the United States. 

 

During the past 20 years, there has been an increase in the number of overweight and obese people in the United States.  Today 2 out of 3 Americans are overweight or obese.  Overweight children are more likely to become overweight adults.  Being overweight can lead to low self-esteem, depression, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and premature death. 

 

Eating an unhealthy diet and not getting enough exercise are the main causes of weight gain and obesity.

Task:

You will be creating and presenting a PowerPoint.  Your power point needs to include the following:

·        3 reasons why obesity is a problem in the United States

·        2 causes of obesity in the United States

·        5 tips for healthier eating habits

·        1 policy that could be created to encourage others to eat a healthier diet and reduce obesity in the United States

·        Introduction slide – project title & picture

·        Conclusion slide – 2 resources, names, class period

·        The PowerPoint presentation should have at least 13 slides

·        Each slide should have correctly spelled text and appropriate pictures

 

 

Process:

1.    You will be working in teacher assigned pairs.

2.   Mrs. Stout will explain how to use the Public Policy Analyst Model.

3.   Working with your partner, complete the 6 steps of the Public Policy Analyst Model.  This model will help you create a policy to help people eat healthier and reduce obesity in the United States.  Complete the 6 Public Policy Analyst Model worksheets.  Use the resources below to assist you.

·        Step 5:  Develop Solutions
