Equal Protection: Race

  Objective: Introduce and familiarize students to the various levels of judicial review and classifications.

• Lesson 2: How did the decision in Dred Scott v. Sandford affect the controversy over slavery before the Civil War?

  Objective: Provide students with a historical summary of the Civil War Amendments to the US Constitution.

• Lesson 3: How did Plessy v. Ferguson affect race relations in the South?

  Objective: Explain the separate but equal decision to students.

• Lesson 4: Was the United States justified in placing Japanese Americans in internment centers in 1942, after war was declared on Japan?

  Objective: Show students the government’s actions against a race during war.

• Lesson 5: Does segregation in public Schools dEPRive students of their right to equal protection of the laws under the Fourteenth Amendment?

  Objective: Show students the reversal of the "separate but equal" ruling.

• Lesson 6: Which remedies are most effective in combating discrimination and in compensating minorities for acts of past discrimination?

  Objective: Familiarize students with the remedies to past racial discrimination. These will include: affirmative action, bussing, and the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

  Objective: Teach students about the challenges to race-based solutions.
