Belief Systems Movie Project

Mr. Shore

 

 

Directions:

Each student will be assigned a group and a belief system to complete this project.  Each group will use windows movie maker to make a movie or slideshow about their belief system and complete this project.  Each movie must be at least FIVE minutes long.  Students will be graded on accuracy, originality and creativity.  Projects count as 35% of your quarter grade.

 

 

Problem:

Ancient civilizations lacked social order and a basis for governing society. 

 

 

Task:

Your movie must include some vital information about your belief system along with answering the following key questions:

·        In what country or region of the world did your belief system originate?

·        If there was a founder of your belief system, who was it?

·        What year did your belief system originate?

·        What are the basic teachings of your belief system?

·        Is your belief system a philosophy or a religion? Why?

·        Is your belief system polytheistic, monotheistic or non-theistic?

·        If there are gods or goddesses in your belief system, who are they and what powers do they have?

·        What circumstances lead to the creation of your belief system in its country of origin?

·        How did your belief system spread?

·        Are there any religious texts of your belief system?  What are they called?

·        Name one significant person involved in your belief system.  What did they do for your belief system and why are they important

·        Does your belief system have a place of worship? (Ex. nature, temple, shrine, church etc.)

·        Are there any moral guidelines involved in your belief system?  If so, what are they?

·        Where is your belief system currently practiced today? 

·        How has your belief system affected the world over time?

 

***YOUR MOVIE IS NOT LIMITED TO BUT MUST INCLUDE INFORMATION THAT ANSWERS THESE QUESTIONS***

 

 

Process

1.     Using OPAC Destiny, the websites listed below and any literary resources from the library, research your belief system and effectively answer all of the questions listed above for your belief system.

 

2.     Use the public policy analyst skills to deeply investigate your belief system.

 

·What issues in life does your belief system attempt to rectify.

  Define the social problem

 

·How do you know that the identified problems existed in this time period?  Use OPAC Destiny/ listed websites and literary resources to find information.

  Gather evidence to support the existence of the problem

 

·Why were these problems present in your time period?

                   Determine the causes and factors contributing to the problem

 

·Was your belief system the best answer to the social problems at the time.

  Evaluate the policy

 

3.     Create a movie that effectively evaluates and answers all the questions for your belief system.  Include images, music, relevant factual information and creative transitions in your movie.

Your movie project will be graded on the accompanying rubric and the following four categories:

·        Pre-planning & Research (25%)

1.     Give 1 to Get 1 worksheet

2.     Learning Guide and Learning Log for questions listed above.

3.     Completed Sequence Chain for planning your movie.

·        Attractiveness (25%)

**Does your movie present critical information on your belief system in an interesting and colorful way?  Are there paintings, music, images etc. that accompany the facts presented on your belief system? **

·        Organization (25%)

**Does your movie address the questions above in chronological order?  Is your movie clear to follow and understand?  Are there transitions from one piece of information to another? **

·        Originality (25%)

**Does your movie stand out?  Is it unique compared to the other movies in the class?  Does your movie include a variety of techniques for presenting information on your belief system? **

 

**YOUR MOVIE MUST INCLUDE OPENING AND CLOSING CREDITS ALONG WITH WORKS CITED INFORMATION**

 

Each group will receive an overall grade from Mr. Shore as well as a grade from each member of their group.  Grades submitted by group members will be confidential and will count as 50% of your individual grade on this project.  The other 50% will be your group grade.
