What do you think Chantel’s future will be?  In  this web quest  will  help Chantel  and  teens like  her  create a positive future  when   faced  with  decisions  involving  sex.

Introduction.

Since 1988, despite opposition from some parental and religious groups, New York has been one of 28 states, plus the District of Columbia, that require AIDS education for every public-school child. In elementary and middle schools across the city abstinence is encouraged, but in reality in the face of peer pressure and sexual images in media sexual activity among teens continues to   increase carelessly.

You  are a  member of  the  New York City Mayoral  Committee  on  Teen Abstinence  and Sexually Transmitted Diseases  you  will be creating  a marketing team  to  make  a commercial  about sexual activity and  STDs  among teens.Your research in this  web quest  will be  used to create  a script,  a story  board  and ultimately a dramatic skit that will  be  videotaped  as  a commercial.

Task

In  an  effort  to  create  your   script  and  story board you  will research the  causes  for  sexual activity and  sexual  transmitted diseases  among  elementary and middle school students and  also look  at  recommended solutions  or  come up  with solutions of  your  own. Using the SIX STEPS OF THE PUBLIC POLICY ANALYST (PPA) method of investigating social problems: your Teen Initiative Marketing Team will consist of five members that will collectively:

·        Research  the  social  issues  surrounding  teenage  sexuality by a  combination of analyzing  newspaper  articles, conducting surveys  within your  neighborhood  and using  internet  research  to  address  the  problems  and  solutions   related  to  this issue. This will be done using the PPA model. Your survey can be done using the Steps 1-6 of the PPA.

·        You  will  create  a   public  policy  slogan using the Public  Policy  Analyst

·        After your slogan is completed a script will be created using Microsoft Word.  Dialogue, lines and roles must be assigned to each member from your team to create a script for your commercial.

·        Using Power point you’ll create a story board detailing the scenes of your commercial, using  an oral  presentation  you will  explain your  storyboard  and  details  of  your  research.

·        Ultimately  the final  step  will  be  to videotape  your commercial as  a finished  product  for  distribution.

·        The  commercial  will include all the steps of the PPA  along with:

1.      The subject, title  and  slogan

2.     Evidence collected (secondary or primary sources)

3.     Documentation  using  graphs,  statistics and footnotes

4.     Alternative solutions, policies connections and recent solutions you’ve come up with.

5.     Finally each marketing group will present their commercial in class.
