A PROJECT ADAPT WEB QUEST
Mrs. Kormann-Driver and Mrs. Hanrahan
Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementery School
Grade 3 & 5
Introduction
It is Monday morning
and you have just entered your classroom. You see one of your classmates standing
with a small crowd of students. They are trying to talk with the upset student.
You approach the group, to find out that over the weekend a threatening e-mail
was sent and that at recess the student is going to get in a fight. You
remember the time you were bullied in school. You were emotionally
destroyed! You feel the urge to help but
how? This web quest gives you the chance!
Bullying
is reaching more and more students at home and in school!
Bullying is aggressive behavior that is
intentional and involves an imbalance of power or strength. Usually, it is
repeated over time. Traditionally, bullying has involved actions such as:
hitting or punching (physical bullying), teasing or name-calling (verbal
bullying), or intimidation through gestures or social exclusion. In recent
years, technology has given children and youth a new means of bullying each
other. Cyber bullying (emails, ims, texting, myspace…) is when a bully uses today’s technology to
brutalize others. The results of bullying on the victim are devastating and
could last a lifetime. The scars go deep into a young persons
mind and body. You cannot let this go on in your own school anymore.
You have been invited to join a
committee at the Martin
Luther King, Jr. Elementary School
that will establish steps for your friends and other students to prevent and
deal this bullying. You and your group will create a pamphlet and oral
presentation that will be given to the Principal and the school committee on
bullying. It will include policies that you
have devised that will end bulling forever at

enforcing the law. Your group of three
will complete the SIX
STEPS IN THE PUBLIC POLICY ANALYST Model (PPA) to decide on the best public policy solution that
will result in a safer environment at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary
School.
After
completing the six steps in the worksheets, your group will design a pamphlet
which will be distributed to students, parents, KICS, and the guidance office
throughout the MLK building. Your
pamphlet will encourage the Martin Luther King School Community to stand up to
cyber bullying. Your pamphlet will list
the necessary steps to follow to successfully prevent cyber bullying in all its
forms. Your oral presentation will reinforce your ideas and solutions for
bullying prevention and eradication.

the process for finding solutions to social problems. Click on each link and
read the web page. Then click on the “WORKSHEET”
