The Facts of New York Times v. United States:
The New York Times and Washington Post began publishing portions of the "Pentagon Papers" (a secret Defense Department report of U.S. involvement in Vietnam). The Pentagon Papers only pertained to events up to 1968.The Nixon Administration argued that this information was useful to the enemy and might prolong the war. Therefore the government sought an injunction against the papers to prevent further publications.
