Here are a list of precedents for the case.
 
U.S. v. Enmons (1973): The Court recognized that New York's obtaining requirement entailed both a deprivation and acquisition of property.

U.S. v. Nardello (1969): The Court ruled that it was not a violation under RICO if the accused did neither pursued nor received something of value from respondents that they could exercise transfer or sell.

Stirone v. U.S. (1960): The Hobbs Act (which is related to the RICO laws) speaks in broad language manifesting a purpose to use all the constitutional power Congress has to punish interference with intersate commerce by extortion robbery or physical violence.

U.S. v. Green (1956): The Court decided that the Hobbs Act does not depend upon a direct benefit being conferred on the person who obtains the property.
