Plyler v. Doe: Facts

In May of 1975 the Texas legislature passed a law which withheld state funds to school districts which educated children who were not legally admitted into the United States. Local school districts were authorized to deny enrollment to children not legally admitted into the US. A class action suit was filed on behalf of school-age Mexican children arguing that the Texas law violated the equal protection clause of the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments.
