Plessy v. Ferguson: Facts

In 1892 a Louisiana citizen who was part black was ordered out of a car for white passengers on a train from New Orleans to Covington. He refused and was jailed and convicted of violating a state law which required separate accommodations for white and colored passengers on railroads. Plessy appealed the decision of the Criminal District Court judge, Ferguson.
