Piscataway v. Taxman: Arguments
Argument #1: The Piscataway School Board should win this case because
they wanted to promote diversity in the school. Since one of them
had to be let go, the board decided that Williams should be retained because
she was the only minority teacher in the business department at the school
where 50% of the students are minorities.
Argument #2: Taxman should win this case since she was let go from
her job, not because of qualifications or tenure, but because of her race.
Taxman and Williams were equally qualified and had begun work at the same
time. She became the victim of bias because of the color of her skin
and this is illegal under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
