A Connecticut state law made the use of contraceptives a criminal
offense. The director and medical director of the local Planned Parethood were prosecuted and convicted under the law as violating the law by giving
information, instruction and advice to married persons as to the means of
preventing conception. The decision was upheld by the Appellate Division
of the Circuit Court and affirmed by the Supreme Court of Errors of
Connecticut. It was appealed to the US Supreme Court.
