The Court ruled 6-3 in favor of Gratz and against the Univeristy of Michigan. Applying the strict scrutiny test, the University's use of race in its admissions policy is not narrowly tailored to achieve their compelling interest in diversity. Therefore the admissions policy violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.
